Poetry (Our Inspriation: 'The Journey' by Francesca Sanna)
During our first week back after half term, we have been exploring the topic of refugees and war, by using the picture book: 'The Journey'.
After learning that war 'took' the children's father, we thought about Dad's glasses. We used our Teamwork skills to create poems about what Dad may have seen through his specs.
Our topic for this term is 'Stargazers' and I already know that many of you have been working hard on your topic homework, producing fantastic fact files and beautiful diagrams of space. Keep it up! We will share these later this term.
We will be exploring this topic further by using the book: 'Cosmic' by Frank Cottrell.
In Science, the children have already been very busy learning the names and order of the planets. They have all created their own fun mnemonic to remember the planets' order in the Solar System.
Here are a few we shared:
My Very Eager Mother Just Served Up Nandos.
My Very Embarrasing Mum Just Served Us Nothing.
My Vicious, Energetic Monkey Just Swung Up Nicely.
Now, we can all remember the order of the planets: Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus and Neptune.
The children have also produced some fabulous posters and fact files about the planets and our Solar System.
We enjoyed performing our gymnastics routines. We used rolls, turns, balances and steps to produce a gymnastic routine that reflected our knowledge of space.
These were videoed, however the files are too big to upload to the website.
