Dear parents, it has come to our attention that some are anxious about their child attending the Year 4 and 5 trips to London.
With any trip we run, a thorough risk assessment is drawn up. During the holidays, the Year 4 and 5 teams carried out a walk through of the whole trip. By doing this they have a detailed knowledge of every crossing they are going to use, every street they will walk down and all of the activities and timings.
We understand the anxieties about going to London, however after taking advice from the Outdoor Education Unit at KCC, it is deemed as safe to visit as any other public place. On the trip we will have a child to adult ratio of 1:4 to ensure the maximum safety of all children when walking about. All adults are from school.
Trips are organised to immerse children in the topic they are learning about and to provide with an experience and this is no different. It is going to provide children with the opportunity to immerse themselves in their new book, The London Eye Mysteries, as well as modern art at the Portrait Gallery. Likewise for Year 4 and their trip to the London Aquarium.
We would expect every child to attend as this is an opportunity to really enhance their learning. Furthermore, the staff have worked really hard to:
a. prepare for the trip but also b. maintain the trip at a very reasonable cost.
Please feel free to speak to Mr Paterson if you have any further concerns and if you would like to view the risk assessments.
We look forward to our trips!
