School Closure Monday

Friday 21st September 2018

Dear Parents and Carers

Emergency boiler repairs Monday 24th September 2018

It is with regret that I need to inform you that after consulting the local authority and the governors, I have to close the school on Monday for emergency boiler works.

As some of you may know, our boiler has been on full throttle since the start of this term – despite being turned off - and the school has been incredibly hot. We reported it on the first day back and engineers came out to see it on 5th September.

It was decided that a new part was needed and they have been waiting for it all this time. Initially, we were told that the boiler would be able to be isolated, thus allowing the school to function normally, but that is not the case and we will have an intermittent water supply on Monday.

Obviously if we can’t flush toilets or wash hands, or have water to prepare food and clean up in the kitchen, we cannot have children or staff in school. I have been assured that the engineers will be on site from 6am on Monday morning and will stay until the job is finished, the cut off being 8pm that evening. However, if there is any likelihood that it will over run, I will inform you via the school app and website, so please make sure that you check it regularly.

I am sorry for any inconvenience this may cause, but the children’s wellbeing is at the heart of this and heating and water are vital for the school to function, especially as we go into the autumn and winter months. Closing the school is not a decision that we have taken lightly, but I hope you can understand and support us in this matter.

Best wishes,

Mrs Jacky Pike
