Times tables are an essential part of maths and can be useful for many different areas of maths, including area, fractions, problem solving. At the end of year 4 there is a government assessment for times tables where the children answer 25 random times tables questions in timed conditions.
In school we regularly practice and send home the times table tests. There are many levels and the children can work their way from bronze, up to platinum through the year, with a certificate as they achieve them. Children are encouraged to take home their sheets and learn any ones they are finding tricky.
This is a fun and engaging website (https://play.ttrockstars.com/) where the children can recall their times tables at speed, competing against themselves or others to improve their rock status. We encourage the children to access this at home to help improve their pace of recall. The section 'Soundcheck' mimics the set up for the Government Multiplication Tables Check.
