What do you now know about the creature in the garage? Draw an outline of what you think the character in the garage looks like. Then write some of your ideas to describe the creature in the garage. Use information in the text to help you with your ideas.

Some ideas for you:

dead bluebottles scattered on his hair and shoulders

...his voice squeaked like he hadn’t used it in a hundred years

He laughed, but he didn’t smile.

Things that he says could be written around the outline, for example

Birds are a common theme throughout this book. Choose a bird to research about. You can use the internet or any fact books you may have. There is a Bird Fact sheet in the resources folder. Find out:

Appearance

Habitat.

Diet

Special features/Interesting facts

Can you also draw a picture of your bird?

Multi-step Addition & Subtraction Problems

 

Complete the worksheet that can be found in the maths resources section.

Read Chapters 11 and 12 (See separate PDF of copies of the text).

 

Use the information you have gathered on your bird to create a non-chronological report about it. Remember at school, we sometimes do this as a double page spread? (Size of A3 paper). In the resources folder are some key vocabulary and sentence opener ideas that might help you.

Ideas for sections to your report are:

  • Heading
  • Introduction (including what makes this bird so interesting to study)
  • Habitat
  • Diet (including hunting for birds of prey)
  • Special features/ interesting facts
  • Picture of your bird
