Read chapter 24

Looking at this chapter, think about the way David Almond reveals more about Skellig.

What is your changing view of Skellig?

Think about what we now know about Skellig and what Michael and Mina know. How do Michael and Mina feel about what they have seen?

The last sentence of Chapter 24 is ‘Making sure the world’s still really there’. What does Michael mean by this sentence?

 

Write a description of Skellig, what do you think he is and the reasons for Skellig crying?

 

Remember to try and vary your sentences (Alan Peat – please see attached resource)

Read chapters 25 and 26

Answer these questions – use the text and try to use the exact word/phrases from the text.

V- Mina describes the picture of the dinosaur’s tail as ‘leaden’. What does this mean? p93

V – On page 94 what two words tell us that Mina is being extremely quiet and calm?  (think about her movements and noise level)

I – At the end of page 94, we get Coot and Leakey reacting.  What are their thoughts about the situation and how do you know?

P - How do you think Mina will respond to Leakey and Coat ‘sniggering and giggling’? p94

E - Michael can see the tears running down his Dad’s face. Do you think this is more or less upsetting than crying loudly? p92 Explain your answer.

R - Michael did something that Mina taught him a while ago. What was that? How did it help? p91

Read Chapters 27, 28 and 29

In the chapter 25 – 29, Michael talks about a lot of different relationships, and how they are changing.  He mentions his sister in hospital, the relationship with his friends Coot and Leakey, and Mina.  He also keeps thinking about the empty house with Skellig in it. 

 

Task:  Map Michael’s most recent thoughts and the feelings that he might have associated with this.  (An example of how you could present your work is in the resources)

Areas to map thoughts and feelings about:

- the house

- Skellig

- Relationship with Mina

- Relationship with his parents

- Relationship with Coot and Leakey

- School

- The baby
